What Size Belt Do I Need?

What Size Belt Do I Need?

One of the questions we’re most often asked at Tom Taylor is, “What size belt do I need?”

Here’s the method we recommend for measuring your belt size. It’s important to get an accurate measurement of your belt size prior to placing your belt order, we’d hate it if you are disappointed when you receive your belt because it isn’t the correct size, and doesn’t fit appropriately.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to get an accurate measurement of your belt size:

Step 1: Find a flexible measuring tape or a piece of string and a ruler.

Step 2: Decide where you will be wearing your belt (i.e., on your waist or hips). This will affect where you take your measurement.

Step 3: If you are wearing your belt on your waist, measure around your waist where you typically wear your pants. If you are wearing your belt on your hips, measure around the fullest part of your hips where your pants would sit.

Step 4: Pull the measuring tape or string snugly, but not too tight. You should be able to comfortably fit a finger between the measuring tape/string and your body.

Step 5: Take note of the measurement in inches. This is your actual waist/hip measurement. It's important to know how belts are normally measured and labeled for size. Typically belts are measured from where the leather folds at the buckle to the middle hole at the tip end, and labeled with that size, for example “32”, “34”, “36,” etc.

Step 6: Compare your measurement to the belt size chart. Belt sizes typically range from 30 to 50 for men. If your measurement falls between two sizes, it's usually best to choose the larger size.

Step 7: If you have a belt that currently fits you well, you can use it as a guide for your new belt size. Measure from the leather fold at the buckle, to the hole that you typically use. This measurement should be the same as the size you determined in Step #6.

Step 8: Keep in mind that belt sizes generally correspond with pant waist sizes. For example, if you typically wear a size 34 waist in pants, you will likely need a size 36 belt. However, it's always a good idea to take your actual waist measurement to get the most accurate sizing.

By following these steps, you should be able to determine your correct belt size, and order a belt that fits you comfortably and securely.
