This striking buckle by master engraver Neil Hunt features a frame crafted from mokume-gane, a centuries-old Japanese metalworking technique whose name translates to “wood grain metal.” Multiple layers of metal are bonded and forged together, creating the flowing organic patterns visible across the buckle’s surface. The result is a piece with natural movement and depth—no two buckles are ever identical.

The design is intentionally restrained, allowing the beauty of the mokume-gane to take center stage. Its warm bronze and copper tones contrast elegantly with the polished sterling silver bar and tongue, creating a buckle that feels both refined and quietly distinctive.

Shown here paired with a matte brown American alligator belt, the buckle’s rich layered metals complement the natural texture and depth of the leather.
